working principle

High operating ambient temperatures require higher efficiency of the power supply to reduce its own heat. TinySwitch-III devices are ideal for this type of application because they provide a high efficiency, low cost solution.

The flyback power supply as shown can operate from an input voltage range of 165 - 265 VAC. It is capable of delivering 9 V, 1 A output current, making it ideal for applications such as electric furnace control at high ambient temperatures.

The AC input voltage is rectified by D1-D4 and filtered by C1 and C2. Fuse F1 is protected in the event of a serious fault. Inductors L1, L3 and capacitors C1, C2 and C9 provide differential mode filtering. Y capacitor C4 provides common mode filtering.
