Qualcomm President: IoT and cloud computing are changing the rules of the game

The 2016 China Big Data Industry Summit and China E-Commerce Innovation Development Summit kicked off in Guiyang on the 25th. Qualcomm Global President Derek Aboli said in a keynote speech at the opening ceremony that mobile technology has tremendous power to transform other industries. The Internet of Things and cloud computing are changing the rules of the game to create a complete ecosystem and cooperation. Only by collaborating with partners can we take the lead in industrial transformation.

Today's global data volume is exploding at an unprecedented rate. Aboli first shared a set of data - in 1992, the global Internet generated 100 GB of data traffic takes one day; five years later, in 1997, 100 GB of data traffic took an hour; in 2002, the global Internet generated 100 GB of traffic took only 1 second. bell. By 2019, the global Internet data traffic per second is expected to exceed 51,000 GB. “In fact, 90% of the global data volume has been generated in the past two years. In the foreseeable future, the global data volume will increase at a rate of doubling every two years,” said Aboli.

The Internet of Things is an important factor driving the growth of data capacity. Such a huge data stream is surging in the virtual world through various terminals, and a large amount of data from IoT terminals will flow into the cloud and data center. Sensors with networking capabilities attached to physical entities will continuously collect data on a massive scale and pass them directly into the cloud. Around us, devices and applications such as connected cars, wearable devices, smart TVs, drones, vending machines, etc. are driving the growth of data volume. It is estimated that by 2020, about one-third of these data will enter the data center.

Aboli believes that this trend will double the growth in the number of servers in the data center and will also drive the creation of new operational standards for the data center. Look for solutions that make data centers more efficient and sustainable. On the one hand, it is necessary to make the server run more "cool" energy-saving, on the other hand, it must meet the requirements of "on-demand service" in the cloud computing era, and flexibly respond to peak load. Aboli said that Qualcomm is currently developing a server processor for the new data center, which can achieve this delicate balance between performance, power consumption and cost.

Aboli said that Qualcomm has supported the development of mobile ecosystems with leading technology and extensive cooperation for many years. Seven months ago, Qualcomm provided partners with the first software development platform for them to develop tests. At the same time, they are working with a number of network technology and solution providers to continuously expand the server ecosystem. In addition, Qualcomm, a global leader in mobile technology, has maintained its traditional advantages in 3G, 4G and upcoming 5G technologies, as well as high-performance, low-power mobile system-on-a-chip, accelerating the construction of future-oriented data centers. These leading advantages are crucial in the vision.

Aboli said that China's position in the global Internet is becoming more and more important. Qualcomm also hopes to achieve cooperation with China in 3G, 4G and 5G.
