The new cooperation between the two companies will focus on the development of innovative solutions in terms of bandwidth allocation, data transmission and data processing speeds to meet the needs of VR video and VR playback. Cooperation also plans to build a VR developer ecosystem and integrate HTC's VR store Viveport with Alibaba Cloud Computing Platform.

“Cloud computing breaks the boundaries of our lives and accelerates the pace of innovation. The cooperation between Ali Cloud and HTC means that the two most disruptive technologies in the world will converge and create more value for related industries. The partnership will significantly accelerate the development of VR technology in China, and at the same time, it will stimulate the proliferation of VR in the world,” said Ge JIN, director of Alibaba Cloud Business Architect.

Combining VR technology with cloud computing will have significant implications for the production of immersive content and its quality improvement. With the help of cloud computing technology's powerful algorithms and solid infrastructure, VR's system stability will be greatly improved, bandwidth will be significantly saved, and the efficiency of functions will increase. At the same time, the cost can be controlled.

For example, Alibaba Cloud recently helped a VR team from Zhejiang University render a panoramic VR video in just three days. The computational requirement for this video is 100,000 processor cores, which is equivalent to a 12-core server processing 8000 hours day and night.

“We are very excited to collaborate with Alibaba Cloud. I believe this is a milestone development in the collaboration between VR and the cloud computing industry. Based on cloud computing technology support and Alibaba Cloud’s 500,000 developer community, HTC Vive will surely be able to Provide more resources for VR developers to provide better technical support and richer content experience for Viveport's Chinese consumers, said Wang Congqing, general manager of HTC Vive China.
