The share of China will grow by nearly twice between 2015 and 2010.
IHS iSuppli estimates that wafer-producer and IDM's 12-inch wafer production will increase from 4.799 billion square inches in 2010 to 8.753 billion square inches in 2015, with a compound annual average growth rate (CAGR) of 12.8. In 2011, IDM's 12-inch wafer process production reached 5.609 billion square inches.
IJ iSuppli analyst LenJelinek said that the 12-inch wafer process was initially used to produce the highest-end products, but this area has changed in the past two years, including wafer foundry and IDM plants that 12-inch crystal Circle is the most cost-effective process for producing mature products; therefore, the agency also expects 12-inch wafers will enter a new fast growth period.
