LUMEX develops a narrow beam SMT LED to reduce beam angle by 93%

US LED manufacturer Lumex has announced the launch of QuasarBrite narrow-beam SMT LEDs to provide high-intensity red, green or blue dense beams. Compared to traditional SMTLEDs, this narrow-beam SMTLED reduces beam angle by 93%, making it ideal for medical devices, safety equipment, sensors, and lighting that require dense, high-intensity light.

"Although traditional SMTLEDs have many advantages, these LEDs do not provide a narrow beam without the use of external light sources," explains JeffOliveros, engineering director at Lumex. "The use of QuasarBrite narrow-beam SMT LEDs can effectively solve this challenge. Traditional SMTLEDs offer beam ranges from 45 degrees to 85 degrees. However, the QuasarBrite narrow beam SMTLED provides a range of light between 6 and 10 degrees, reducing beam angles by up to 93%."

With the QuasarBrite narrow-beam SMTLED, the LED can be mounted upside down directly into the built-in parabolic reflector and produce high-intensity light in a narrow beam without the need for an external source. As a result, QuasarBrite narrow-beam SMTLEDs can save 50% in cost and 50% on substrates compared to conventional SMTLEDs that use dense light beams with external sources. The need to use an external light source greatly simplifies the production process and saves additional costs.

The built-in parabolic reflector also calibrates the astigmatism into a beam of light, thus allowing ordinary LEDs with a standard energy consumption of 75 mW or less to emit high-intensity light. From a 45-degree perspective, a typical SMT may produce 1 cd of brightness. From a 6-degree perspective, the QuasarBrite narrow-beam SMTLED produces light levels up to 100 cd. The QuasarBrite narrow beam SMTLED certified by RoHs Green includes 4 mm (providing a beam angle of 12 to 22 degrees), 6 mm (a beam angle of 14 to 24 degrees) and 8 mm (a beam of 14 to 18 degrees) Angle) and other different sizes.
