Newport Media is an innovative fabless communications semiconductor company that supplies products to the broadcast media industry. At this show, Newport Media will highlight solutions for digital mobile TV standards based on different regional markets including DVB-H/T, ISDB-T, ISDB-T/ATV dual mode, CMMB and Media FLO.

With the full popularity of 3G and wireless broadband access, Android-based smart phones/MIDs have achieved unprecedented rapid growth. Newport Media has been developing technology solutions for new market needs and providing system application solutions to customers in a timely manner. For Android OS, the company offers a comprehensive solution from TV receiver chips to Android-based middleware and players. This greatly reduces the design difficulty of the customer and speeds up the time to market.

Newport Media has launched the ISDB-T/ATV dual-mode Android OS-based mobile digital TV solution for the South American market and has commercialized it. For the South American carrier market, Newport Media is working closely with operators to develop Ginga middleware that fully supports interactive services based on digital TV broadcast channels. This greatly simplifies development for Chinese handheld device design companies and manufacturers and can instantly implement and deliver products that meet the needs of South American operators.

At the IIC, Newport will announce its new product NMI5625 dual-mode ISDB-T/ATV and NMI5325 single-mode ISDB-T TV chips to the Chinese market. Both chips integrate H.264/AAC audio/video (A/V) decoding to meet the rapidly growing demand for mobile digital TV (DTV) in the Latin American market at a lower overall cost.

By integrating audio/video decoding into ISDB-T System-on-a-Chip (SoC) products, Newport Media has greatly simplified the design difficulty of adding digital TV to consumer electronics, including mass-market cellular phones. This simplification is achieved by eliminating third-party A/V decoder chips or by relying on expensive cellular baseband processors. The result is a significant reduction in bill of materials costs and a significant time-to-market.

The NMI5625 and NMI5325 products are based on Newport Media's industry-leading 65nm process product ISDB-T tuner/demodulator SoC with an innovative A/V decoder architecture to complete ISDB-T digital TV complete RF tuner and demodulator And the A/V decoder function requires less than 80mW of power. Because the pins of these new ICs are compatible with Newport Media's existing line of analog TV chips, existing customers at Newport Media can easily upgrade their analog TV products to ISDB-T or dual-mode ISDB-T/simulation For TV, you only need to replace the analog TV chip with NMI5325 or NMI5625, and then do a small software upgrade.

Mohy Abdelgany, President and CEO of Newport Media, said: "The integration of the A/V decoding subsystem with our existing RF tuner and OFDM demodulator on a 65nm SoC is technically achieved by Newport Media. An important milestone. The fact that our technical team can do this in a 6 x 6 mm QFN package and the pins are fully compatible with our existing analog TV products is itself an equally important business achievement. This package compatibility will allow many analog TV handset models that have been put into mass production to be reconfigured to be compatible with ISDB-T or dual-mode ISDB-T/analog TV without any additional hardware modifications. Our customers can easily launch products based on these new chips in a short time."

Based on the emphasis on the Chinese market, Mr. Mohy Abdelgany will personally visit the IIC booth and will deliver a keynote speech at the IIC venue “Smartphone Summit” on the morning of February 26th. “Application and Prospect of Mobile Digital TV on Android-based Smartphones ".
