Panasonic 50-inch 4K HDR TV new experience appearance value is quite high

The 50-inch TX-50DX750 is the first Panasonic TV I reviewed in 2016. It sells for 1,299 pounds (about RMB 12,156), has a 4K ultra-high definition resolution, and looks close to the flagship model DX902/ 802 design. In addition, 50DX750 also supports native 4K HDR mode and built-in Firefox smart TV operating system.

Design and Features

Although the 50DX750 is not known for its sharp design, it still incorporates the ultra-thin and simple style of the 50DX800 series. We see the 50DX750's body is very thin, and uses an impressive silver metal frame. At the same time the design of the ring in the base control, let me we can adjust 50DX750 in four perspectives.

First of all, the base of the 50DX750 can be attached to the edge or center of the screen, freely adjustable according to your preferences or the width of your home. The two brackets can even be adjusted asymmetrically, as long as you like it.

Obviously, we are talking about the TV itself, so there's no need to go too far into the pedestal.

In terms of connectivity, the 50DX750 is equipped with four HDMI interfaces on the back, two of which are compatible with 60/50Hz 4K video playback and HDCP 2.2 protocol, supporting 4K signal transmission. At the same time, 50DX750 has built-in Wi-Fi connection function, can access the resources on the network or Panasonic online services, and three USB ports can connect external storage devices, Freeview tuner and USB hard disk.

The 50DX750's smart system is basically the same as the 2015 Panasonic TV Firefox system, but Panasonic apparently further optimized the system. For example, web applications can be found directly on the TV interface, and the "send to TV" function can be added, and the video in the Firefox browser can be directly projected onto the smart TV in the Firefox system.

It should be noted that the 50DX750 does not support the Dolby Vision HDR feature, so it does not support Amazon or Netflix streaming surround sound, but the standard HDR 10 streaming media.

The last key feature is support for Freeview Play. This allows the user to view the electronic program list and call back the program that has already been aired or to preview part of the content in advance. This is also a good feature for users.

The 50DX750 is a 4K ultra-high definition TV that sells for 1300 inches and has a certain level of display. The 50DX750 achieves an HDR experience by means of screen-edge backlighting, while the 50DX750 is also equipped with the high-performance Studio Master HCX chip and Panasonic's famous Hollywood Laboratory technology.

The 50DX750 is very close to Panasonic's flagship model in almost all parts of the picture, and it is very focused on the accuracy of the picture, which clearly expresses the intention of the photographer and the director. The 50DX750 processor is known to provide a 1800Hz refresh rate, which ensures that high-speed moving objects do not appear blurry at 4K resolution.

The 50DX750 only supports 8-bit color depth, not the HDR-recommended 10-bit, so this leads to the effect of truly restoring the HDR picture. Of course, since Panasonic TV has always had a solid foundation in color processing, the HCX engine can at least reduce some of the effects of not supporting 10-bit color depth.

Lack of support for 10-bit color depth makes the 50DX750 incompatible with the effects of Ultra HD HDR, and the screen brightness has not reached the standard requirement of 1000nit. Although this has affected the effect of the 50DX750 on solid HDR, the wide color gamut and super bright LCD panel can still bring about a certain HDR experience. In fact, due to the effect of the edge backlighting, a maximum brightness of less than 1000 nits is considered a sensible move, so that a precise balance between the backlight and the black level can be achieved.

In color and contrast, 50DX750 can also achieve HDR effect in 3D playback. Currently, in all new television products, there are not many 3D-enabled devices. New products including Samsung and Philips have all given up on 3D features, but Panasonic still has active 3D display technology for the 50DX750 and is equipped with glasses.

Settings

The 50DX750 Setup Wizard makes it easy to complete the basic setup. The demonstration of the built-in Firefox system allows you to get started immediately, basically without much difficulty. If you want to get the best picture display, it's still a complicated process. The optimization of HDR mode and the adjustment of screen parameters have become a challenge for ordinary users.

Here, we suggest that you only need to adjust the 50DX750 preset mode is sufficient, especially in the backlight and contrast, basically do not need too much adjustment.

Each of the preset modes provides a different HDR experience, and from my personal perspective, the cinema mode and the normal mode are the two most commonly used. Facts have proved that Panasonic engineers have a good understanding of the color of HDR images. The default mode will make the colors more vivid, while the movie mode will increase the color saturation, which is very popular with movie lovers.

In addition to choosing your favorite preset mode, there are various other settings that you can adjust. For example, when you enjoy 4K media, turn off silence processing, do not set Remaster mode higher than the minimum, and so on. Similarly, if you do not want the image to be over-rendered, then you must ensure the overall image quality. The most complicated is the overall adjustment of the TV backlight, which can hardly achieve a perfect HDR effect.

My personal opinion is that if you want the best HDR effect, turn off the adaptive backlight and set it to 88 or so. The contrast ratio is 95. When the HDR standard dynamically appears, the process is much simpler. If the backlight is adjusted to less than 50%, the problem of low brightness can be solved.

Quality

Some televisions always have some deficiencies in the handling of shadow effects, but 50DX750 does not have this problem. It has strong control over the dark places. This is the first place that is impressive.

The overall tone of "House of Cards" is too dark to test the performance of television in the dark. Many LCD TVs are in complete details when dealing with such scenes, but even at night scenes on Panasonic 50DX750 you can see the details of the trees and even the texture of the clothes. This point has been highlighted by Panasonic as early as IFA 2015. Many people have noticed many details that they did not see after watching the “Dead Battle” episode.

There is no problem with the details of the performance of the 50DX750 shadow, then the next extreme is the high light environment. This can still be tested with the House of Cards, such as Robin Wright's scene in her office, where there are white walls, white lights, and white shirts. At this point, the overall performance of the 50DX750 is still good, and the materials with similar colors are clear, and you can see from the light the effect of gradual change with distance.

Even so, the 50DX750 is inferior to the "black" when it is "white", and when the lights are a certain degree, you can no longer distinguish the changes.

What about the color performance? The color of this TV is also very beautiful. For 50DX750, it is a challenge to represent natural and true colors because it is easy to exaggerate. At this point, the 50DX750 is doing quite well. Like the human elbows and cheekbones, where the comparative complexions are difficult to deal with, there is no problem.

Since it is a 4K TV, it certainly can not be forgotten. Although the 50DX750 is Panasonic's first 4K OLED TV, it is not exposed in this respect. 4K content is full of detailed and transparent images like other high-end products.

If you want to explain the obvious shortcomings, the dynamic performance of the 50DX750 should be better. It is recommended that you set the dynamic processing option to "Minimum" because the screen appears to be muddy when it is completely turned off, and the screen is smoothed when it is set to "Highest".

Sound effects

Taking into account the ultra-thin body and design, 50DX750 audio sounds plausible. The 50DX750 has no bass effect, and the mid-range sound is relatively clean. In the treble, the 50DX750 is more detailed in the details, both male and female voices can be more clearly expressed.

Of course, if you can external speakers, then naturally better, but if used for daily viewing, 50DX750 sound effects are still acceptable.

to sum up

The 50DX750 built-in Studio Master HCX new product has excellent capabilities for color balance and 4K signal processing, but for an LCD-backlit 4K Ultra HDTV, basically 50DX750 can be sought after by anyone who likes watching movies, but The slightly higher price is the only factor that is worth hesitating.
