STMicroelectronics Introduces New White LED Driver Chip
STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor supplier, expands its lineup of energy-efficient mobile device solutions and introduces the new white light-emitting LED driver chip, the STLA02. The new product simplifies the backlighting of energy-efficient LCDs and keyboards.
ST's new STLA02 features high-side current sensing, which further improves backlight design. The backlight negative (low-side) terminals can be directly connected to the ground without the need for a low-side current-sense circuit. The printed circuit board design reduces the number of connections of the backlight, thereby improving the overall reliability of the system.
The STLA02 is capable of driving up to six LEDs with a minimum operating supply voltage of 2.5 volts and can be used in a system powered by a lithium battery; the maximum operating voltage is 18 volts, enabling the new product to work with a variety of battery power supplies.
STLA02's new advanced products and world-leading integration and energy efficiency will help reduce the size of multi-portable products and extend battery life. Other products for portable devices include energy-efficient DC-DC converters, audio chips, Class D audio amplifiers, Ambient Light Sensors, motion sensors, and high-performance, low-power microcontrollers ( STM8 and STM32 series).
