Baidu Joins Hands with Europe's Largest Auto Parts Manufacturer to Develop Self-Driving Cars

Today, Lu Qi, President and Chief Operating Officer of Baidu Group, and Frank Jourdan, member of the Executive Committee of the Continental Group Corporation, signed the strategic cooperation agreement in Berlin.

According to foreign media reports, Continental AG, Europe’s largest auto parts supplier, announced on Wednesday that it has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Chinese search giant Baidu to jointly develop self-driving cars.

Today, Lu Qi, President and Chief Operating Officer of Baidu Group, and Frank Jourdan, member of the Executive Committee of the Continental Group Corporation, signed the strategic cooperation agreement in Berlin.

The Continental Group stated that both parties will jointly develop technologies, products and business models to provide solutions for autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation services. Continental’s CEO Elmar Degenhart stated in a statement: “By cooperating with Baidu, the two parties will make smart transportation services a big step forward.”

At present, the competition in the world of autonomous cars is very fierce. Traditional car manufacturers, parts suppliers, and technology companies have formed strategic alliances to strengthen their own camp.

For example, in April this year, Baidu signed a new auto-driving strategic cooperation agreement based on high-precision maps with German automotive technology suppliers Bosch Group, Gaode, and NavInfo, aiming to develop high-precision maps for autonomous driving in the Chinese market.

In addition, BMW, Intel, Mobileye and Delphi, Toyota and Invista, as well as Lyf and Alphabet's self-driving car company Waymo under the Alphabet have all reached relevant cooperation alliances.
