VR video cloud service provider Pixvana completes a $14 million Series A round of financing
On November 21, 2017, Pixvana, based in Seattle, United States, was a startup that created a cloud-based processing and delivery platform for VR video. Today they announced the completion of a $14 million Series A round led by Vulcan Capital, Raine Ventures, Microsoft Ventures, Cisco Investments and Hearst Ventures, as well as the original investors Madrona Venture Group have participated.
The company initially completed seed round financing in December 2015, and A round of financing resulted in a total financing of US$20 million. Now, Pixvana hopes to help “anyone create and distribute the next-generation video experience†through the main service SPIN Studio.
SPIN Studio is an end-to-end solution for creating and distributing virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality video content. The playout and direct-to-store distribution features have been open to beta testers so that they can directly provide users with a live-quality, seamless 8K playback experience. This is all thanks to the Field-of-View Adaptive Streaming (FOVAS) technology developed by Pixvana, which can provide video in "tile" format (divide parts of content to reduce bandwidth usage), and Just concentrate on rendering the user's gaze area video (your gaze point will determine which tile gets the highest rendering resolution), thereby optimizing playback resolution. According to ETV, Gear VR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows VR and Daydream support FOVAS.
According to reports, SPIN Studio provides splicing, editing, publishing and playback services for a single "seamless workflow".
