Dean Yan Xingya, teacher Yan personally has their own exploration and research in the direction of ARVR. ARC: I feel that the current case of VR education seems to focus on safety education and K12 education. According to your understanding, what is the current development status of domestic VR technology in the direction of university subject education?
Dean Yan: Now the state attaches great importance to the construction of the virtual simulation experiment center of colleges and universities. There is no doubt that VR should make a difference, and I think it should make a difference. Most of the current virtual simulation experiments still stay in screen-based video simulation, but they all recognize that immersive VR is the direction of development, and there are also very few talents in this area.
ARC: Is there a university in China that has specialized in virtual reality? How long do you expect this professional direction to be widely available in colleges and universities?
Dean Yan: Professionals with important developments and major needs in the society will emerge in the university. The university is no longer a closed-door vehicle with no ears, and the virtual reality profession may appear in the professional catalog for a while, but In the professional direction of computer-related majors and art-related majors, it has already been reflected in the training programs of many colleges and universities.
I think this is a big trend. In less than five years, it will be more or less reflected in the above majors of various universities.
ARC: The country is now very much advocating colleges and universities to conduct school-enterprise cooperation. Is your current post and telecommunications university promoting the school-enterprise alliance in the direction of virtual reality? What is the current harvest and progress?
Dean Yan: Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications is a provincial high-level university, which is positioned to cultivate applied talents for the country. This positioning has enabled Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications to jointly run schools with various types of enterprises. The School of Digital Art of Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications, as an early-stage school for cultivating undergraduate talents in virtual reality and augmented reality, established a laboratory center with a number of companies as early as 2011. At present, the centers that have established relationships with VR are: "Xi'an Mixed Reality Engineering Center", "Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications VR/AR Application Research Center", "Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications Mixed Reality Application Research Center", "Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications Silk Road Media Application Research Center". There are seven participating companies, and more than 40 graduate students and undergraduates are involved in scientific research.
ARC: I think you said that virtual reality is also the main direction of the Digital Art Institute of Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications? What kind of exploration is currently being carried out by you or the graduate students you bring.
Dean Yan: AR, VR, MR is indeed an important direction for the students of the Digital Art College of Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications. In addition to the basic application ability training, we combine the information technology advantages of Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications, mainly in the project of technology plus art. Do research, such as AR, VR in the field of industrial simulation, education and information applications. Of course, we are also doing traditional game field and film and television applications, and transplanting good technology in industrial simulation and education information projects.
ARC: Regarding industry development, I think your point of view is very valuable. Your identity is to look at the industry at the forefront of the academic industry. In particular, listening to Michael tells you that you have also participated in many unofficial meetings in the industry. What is your opinion on technology and market in the next three years?
Dean Yan: I am a very good friend with Michael and a comrade in my career. I have participated in many activities in the past few years and have had many long talks.
I believe that this industry is in line with the law from the fiery heat of 2016 to the current low-key. After all, after smashing, it is a good time to do business. With the development of hardware devices, the diversity and complexity of applications will be far greater than the speed of hardware development. I don't think about the development of hardware equipment. After all, I am also listening to it, but the market is developing very fast. Even my frog, which is a teacher who is away from the market and is a teacher in colleges and universities, can feel it. With the portability and lightweight of hardware devices, after 3 to 5 years, VR and AR devices will be as popular as current mobile phones, and applications will be as much as the apps on your mobile phone.
ARC: Finally, because of the different locations of universities and business stations, the focus of virtual reality education technology is different. As a representative of the academic research of the school, you are engaged in the application of AR/VR industry market practitioners, especially in the education industry. Anything, what do you want to say?
Dean Yan: At present, the professional staff of AR/VR industry is relatively narrow, mostly computer science majors and model-related art majors. In order to meet the needs of users' pain points and compete with foreign related products, it is necessary for relevant industry practitioners to join us wholeheartedly. This may have a process. The market is of course the main force of this deployment process, but as a As an educator in this industry, we also have the responsibility of propaganda tips.
