The US Patent and Trademark Office passed an Apple-issued O LED screen patent on Thursday, which describes the use of in-line sensors to dynamically adjust the output of certain areas of the screen to compensate for ambient light fluctuations or long-lasting LEDs. .
Although Apple does not currently have a device equipped with an OLED display, the company is still trying to improve the solution of O LED technology , such as the OLED color change caused by the long use of the diode. The patent contains many advanced techniques for detecting and compensating for light fluctuations.
Compared to the LCD liquid crystal display panels used in most consumer electronic devices today, OLEDs have many advantages. Among them, the OLED can emit a colored light source by itself, making the display thinner and lighter, and the viewing angle is not reduced. The OLED can be configured on a rigid or flexible panel. Of course, OLEDs have many disadvantages. For example, compared with LCD displays, OLEDs decay very quickly, which means that some LEDs will be different from other brightnesses, affecting the overall illumination. This phenomenon is a common afterimage.
The Apple patent mentions that photodiodes can be placed under the OLED matrix to detect and compensate for these changes. In some cases, the photodiode is under certain areas of the screen. Using data from the photodiode, the controller can detect changes in illumination in different situations. For example, ambient light information can be obtained by photodiodes. If the display is too dark, the controller can adjust to the situation. Because the sensor is part of the display, not the adjacent layout, plus the ambient light sensor using the iPhone and iPad, the data is more accurate.
It is mentioned in the patent that the photodiode can also collect information of individual OLEDs or groups of pixels, and adjust the degree of illumination according to signals set in advance or other OLED configurations. If the OLED is detected to be too long to produce color and brightness through the surrounding diodes, the controller will compensate for the particular component.
