As the saying goes: "I can't eat a fat man." After many years of downswing, the Internet of Things industry is still in the toddler stage. It can be seen that the Internet of Things has to become a "fat", not a one-night event. At present, the protocol standards used by major IoT vendors are not the same, making the IoT hardware designers have a hard time saying that there are too many agreements.
To this end, at the 3rd IoT Conference-Hot Forum hosted by E-Friends, Liu Jun, the wireless product sales manager of Silicon Technology, shared with us the multi-protocol, multi-band wireless SoC connection device for IoT connectable devices. Applications.
Manager Liu said: "The Internet of Things has evolved to this stage, and there are many different protocol standards, such as wearable devices using Bluetooth, smart phones with Bluetooth, WIFI, and 125khz for car keys, etc. With multiple protocols, how hardware designers adapt to products with the lowest cost wireless connectivity is key."
The basic requirements for IoT devices are simple device configuration; remote access + local control; different wireless requirements; interoperability based on standard ecosystems; maintaining proprietary or legacy system interoperability; and long battery life Low cost features. Manager Zhang believes: "In the case of the inability to change the existence of multiple wireless protocols, wireless standards, manufacturers need to adapt to more ecosystems. If a device can be compatible with multiple protocol standards, gateways, then one device is enough to "go the world" "."
So how do these requirements for hardware designers to maintain low cost and competitive advantage in such a complex connection?
As early as 4 years ago, the company has developed a multi-frequency SoC for the above problems. It will have a low-power MCU, a single transceiver with 2.4GHz and Sub-GHz functions, and a larger flash space. And RAM space, so that users can use more wireless protocol stack and other advantages. Last year, Genco Technology's Gecko came out with a single design, smaller form factor, low cost, flexibility and future-proof applications, allowing developers to choose the wireless protocol that currently meets the application needs, and also rely on soft Hardware reuse easily migrates to other protocols within the portfolio, which protects the customer's existing investment, greatly reduces development costs, and truly achieves a chip "going the world."
With powerful hardware, sophisticated software can make hardware even more powerful. Manager Liu believes that today's IoT and semiconductor manufacturers are working harder on software to provide customers with a complete protocol stack, so as to ensure that customers can quickly enter the market and gain opportunities.
Speaking of dynamic multi-protocol, Manager Liu believes that smart door locks are the first to break out. At present, the smart door locks on the market mostly use the Bluetooth protocol, but the door lock can be connected with the smart light bulb to make the door open light. The protocol used by smart light bulbs is not single. In order to meet the needs of developers to increase the protocol without increasing the cost and increasing the antenna requirements, dynamic multi-protocols are needed.
Building a multi-protocol switch module requires a common boot loader, stack compatibility, shared resources, and common development tools and software. However, dynamic multi-protocols also face the challenge of power consumption and larger Flash, and the RF scheduler and RTOS are particularly important.
Finally, Manager Liu concluded: "Software is a major focus of the future development of the Internet of Things, because software is the key to improving the user experience in the future; and the greater the additional information attached to the hardware, the more added value for the customer, which is also A major aspect of the profitability of IoT vendors.
