DIALOG Semiconductor Co., Ltd.'s multi-touch display sensor IC passed WINDOWS 8.1 certification

The touch screen passed Microsoft ’s latest certification program, demonstrating that Dialog ’s multi-touch IC is ready for large-scale listing

Beijing, China, October 17, 2013- Dialog Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (Frankfurt stock code: DLG), a provider of highly integrated power management, audio, AC / DC and short-range wireless technology, today announced its multi-touch integration Circuit (MTICTM) (part number DA8901) has successfully passed the Windows 8.1 certification requirements. MTIC is the world's first chip to support FlatFrog's touch technology and is used in various mass-produced consumer electronic devices.

Dialog's MTIC is suitable for various products such as notebook computers, tablet computers, 2-in-1 computers, UltrabookTM, fixed and portable all-in-one computers and monitors. In addition to optimizing for Microsoft Windows 8.1, MTIC also supports various touch operating systems based on Google Android.

The unique feature of FlatFrog Touch is that it can measure the pressure of the user pressing the screen with a pressure resolution up to 10 digits. With the help of infrared rays in the protective glass, the system can track multiple touch operations and gestures from various objects such as gloved hands, stylus pens, and so on. This provides users with an excellent and authentic touch experience, whose performance exceeds the latest optical and capacitive touch solutions, thus creating a new method of interacting with the touch operating system.

In the FlatFrog Touch system, the sensor is located on the edge of the screen, not the screen surface, so there are no obstacles blocking the light, which can maximize the image quality and brightness, and will not cause color distortion, so no costly special production process is required. Unlike traditional optical touch systems, all sensing electronic components are located under the display, allowing the protective glass to cover the outermost edge of the screen, thus enabling frameless industrial design and seamless user interaction.

Mark Tyndall, vice president of corporate development and strategy at Dialog Semiconductor Co., Ltd., said: "The Microsoft Windows 8.1 certification is regarded by the industry as an important indicator of multi-touch PCs. This milestone event will allow our customers The large-scale popularization of the market is full of confidence. These PC products will be available in the first quarter of 2014. "

DA8901 is available in 5.7 x 5.0mm QFN packaging. Its small footprint makes it very suitable for paralleling with LED infrared luminous tubes and receiver devices, and is installed on a small, low-cost printed circuit board to achieve the best industrial design. This is also an ideal solution for Windows 8.1 PCs, tablets and ultrabooks.

Currently, Dialog Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has begun to provide commercial samples of DA8901.
