Google's search and map business in China shrinks

Google's search and map business in China has further shrunk. According to data from CNZZ, Google’s search market share in China in October was 4.72%, dropping to fourth. In addition, mobiSights reported that in the third quarter of this year, Google’s share of mobile map services in China was 9%, ranking sixth.

Sohu IT reported that Google’s share of search in China was 5.1% in September this year, but today’s decline is partly due to Qihoo 360’s share of Google’s market share after it entered the search engine market in August.

Google’s mobile map service’s share in China in the third quarter also declined. This is mainly because Apple abandoned Google Maps in the new iOS 6 system and switched to its own map application. The Apple Maps application grabs high German data.

In the third quarter, Gaode ranked first in mobile phone map service in China, which was 25.9%. Baidu ranked second with a 19.1% share. In order to expand mobile revenue, Baidu has been investing heavily in map services. Currently it has split the map division into the LBS division.

It can be seen that Google is chasing domestic and foreign competitors in the Chinese market, resulting in a shrinking search and map business. Since the withdrawal from China two years ago, this market has become a pain in the hearts of Google and Google China, and the decline in market share is also expected.

At the same time, according to the latest news, Google’s share of the search engine market in the UK fell below 90% for the first time in five years, a decrease of 1.7 percentage points from the same period last year. According to foreign media, the decline in Google’s share was mainly due to increased market competition.

Although Google has a large global business and is a leader in many fields, it will inevitably face challenges from its opponents. In addition, at present, the entire IT trend is shifting to mobile. Whether Google can take advantage of this node to complete the transition and continue to dominate is an issue that needs attention.
