ON Semiconductor Introduces 1080p Video Development Kit for the Internet of Things
October 14, 2015 — On Semiconductor (ON Semiconductor, NASDAQ: ON), which drives energy-efficient innovation, has launched an open imaging platform for low-power video streaming applications. The MatrixCamTM Video Development Kit (VDK) is designed to promote the adoption of more video for Internet of Things (IoT) products and accelerate the launch of related products for OEM customers. Key applications include home automation systems, building access equipment, baby monitors, advanced lighting controls and smart appliances. The MatrixCam VDK provides intelligent streaming capabilities that are awakened by Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or passive infrared sensors with integrated motion detection. After waking up, the push notification is sent to the designated portable electronic device (smartphone, tablet, etc.), alerting the user to view the live stream (or still image). It connects to cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform, supporting video on demand and live streaming. The VDK can be configured through a simple web-based graphical user interface or using a dedicated mobile app.
Numerous interoperability solutions are built into the MatrixCam platform – including Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Ethernet (10/100 Mbit/s) and BLE. It features ON Semiconductor's AR023Z 1/3-inch format CMOS image sensor with a 1928 (V) x1088 (H) active pixel array that delivers industry-leading low-light performance.
