Level Ex Announces $11 Million Financing for AR/VR Medical

There is no doubt that virtual reality (VR) has great potential for growth in the medical industry. Level Ex, a technology start-up company, also believes that VR has much to offer in the medical field. The company recently announced that it has secured $11 million in financing that will be used to develop new VR and augmented reality (AR) applications for doctors.

Previously, Level Ex first entered the medical VR market and launched the mobile VR application Airway Ex. This application allows doctors to conduct medical training on virtual patients to diagnose and perform difficult respiratory surgery. Level Ex hopes to expand the scale of VR medical applications through recent investments, including more VR and AR technology applications and the introduction of more medical classifications such as gastroenterology and cardiology.

“There are more than a billion users worldwide playing video games—a product that is designed and manufactured in combination with cutting-edge technology and a deep understanding of human psychology. By contrast, doctors’ use of technology has lagged behind the gaming industry by at least 20 years. Sam Glassenberg, founder and CEO of Level Ex, said, “Now we are finally closing this gap and providing doctors with surreal visual effects and game experience mechanisms to enhance their professional skills through their existing mobile devices. This is a disruptive change, and the new financing that is now available will allow Level Ex to quickly expand into new products and healthcare professionals to narrow the gap in the larger (medical) field."

Glassenberg believes that VR will play a major role in medical training. Through VR immersive experience, it can create a virtual operating room environment, so that doctors can achieve the purpose of training without having to experiment on real patients. The AR can be directly applied in the operating room. For example, the surgeon can project the data in the form of an AR image on the patient in the operating table, so as to “intuitively” judge the progress of the operation and improve the accuracy of the operation.
