A few days ago, the official website of the Miami University of Engineering released news that the University of Miami engineering professor Song Yuzhou successfully helped design a pocket LED light. The LED lamp uses a light-emitting diode that is 100 times smaller than a conventional LED. It is bendable and can maintain a lower temperature and has a higher life than existing LEDs.
The continuous development of LED technology makes LED lamps accelerate the replacement of incandescent lamps and even fluorescent lamps. Because it has a very high luminous efficiency, it can provide more luminous flux, but consumes less energy. This is an advantage that incandescent and fluorescent lamps cannot match.
Song Yuzhou worked hard to develop a new production mode to improve certain characteristics of LED lights. It uses a silicon substrate and utilizes novel etching methods, unique layouts and innovative thermal management methods. These manufacturing techniques have miniaturized the design of LED lamps, which produce lower temperatures than current LED lamps at the same power.
In the future, researchers will find ways to make the device stretchable so that it can be used on any surface, such as a bendable display, biomedical devices that adapt to the curved surface of the human body.
