Vive announces compatibility with Oculus Rift next month, providing a better experience for Facebook VR players
A year ago, HTC launched the Viveport store for its VR ecosystem, providing its own app store for Vive devices, and subsequently brought a monthly subscription plan. Today, Vive officially announced that starting from September 5th, its Viveport will join Oculus Rift as one of the compatible devices, so that even VR players who invest in Facebook at the hardware level can also enjoy HTC’s content ecology and use it. Just like in the Stream store, the introduction page of each VR content will indicate whether Vive and Rift devices are supported. Of course, Rift users can use filters to limit the display of only applicable VR content.
HTC said that since today, developers can choose whether the content marked on the Viveport is compatible with Rift. In theory, content using the OpenVR standard can be used smoothly. Viveport Chairman Rikard Steiber revealed to us that compared with last year, the number of paying users in the first half of 2018 has increased four times, and there are currently nearly 500 different content options available on Viveport. It is believed that the expansion of compatible devices will give a boost to the growth of Viveport.
