Electronic enthusiasts: Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute in Erlangen, Germany, have developed a space-saving metering unit. This metering unit can be clamped to a cable like a clothes dryer, and the required power can be measured without disconnecting the load.
The new "Energy Analyzer" was developed in collaboration with researchers and Rauschert. (Rauschert is a manufacturer of advanced ceramic products whose energy requirements are energy intensive.) During the development process, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transportation and Technology as part of the Bavarian Microsystems Technology Project The department worked together to fund the project.
Until recently, large industrial energy users in Germany benefited from the consumption of electricity and natural gas with reduced tax rates. Now, the German government has decided that only companies that have taken effective measures to reduce energy consumption are eligible to apply for tax breaks. In addition, the government has stipulated that from 2013 onwards, only those companies equipped with an energy management system that provides the company's energy consumption details will be allowed to apply for export tax rebates. For the companies concerned, this may not be a simple task, as it means they will have to install personal auxiliary meters to monitor the power consumption of a single load, such as printing presses and welding machines, or ovens, or electric motors. In many cases, the current metering equipment on the market is too large to fit into existing power distribution cabinets.
This new device is based on an integrated 3D magnetic field sensor. Originally designed by IIS to monitor the position and orientation of the internal drums of the German Bosch and Siemens branded washing machines.
IIS researcher Michael Hackner said: "This new device is the first application of 3D magnetic field sensor technology in measuring energy consumption. By using this technology to measure the current generated by the magnetic field, we can determine the energy consumption connected. Load. For its part, it is a very novel approach."
To build the device, Hackner and other team engineers installed eight sensors on a flexible flat board in the form of an ASIC. Compared to conventional designs, these sensors increase measurement accuracy by embodying not only the strength of the magnetic field perpendicular to the surface of the chip, but also the tangential direction. The data recorded by the sensor is transferred to the microcontroller and then forwarded to the central processor via the gateway switch.
Hackner said that just like the advantages of the new product, "Our sensor is fast to install and also supports online integration." He continues to emphasize another unique design feature of the product: it has the same function as the Rogowski coil, which acts as a component integrated into many standard instruments to measure current. “But the Rogowski coil only measures AC power, and the IIS sensor can measure DC power—this is a point to consider when measuring the power consumption of a PV system, including a solar inverter that converts DC output to AC power.â€
The construction of the metering device is inexpensive. Because the IIS researchers did not use any magnetic material throughout the design process, there was no accuracy error due to this material (this error refers to recurring when used with other clamp ammeters). The short circuit causes the phenomenon to stop running). Another advantage is that, unlike clamp-on ammeters, new devices can measure voltage. In short, users now have an all-in-one instrument that can measure all the parameters that need to be measured in order to monitor grid quality and power consumption. Michael Müller, head of Rauschert's power management system, gave an example: "The new device can help us quickly identify production problems so that we can immediately detect violations during the launch process and avoid scrapping the entire batch of ceramics. He intends to establish an energy management consulting service business platform for the rest of the company and install a new measurement system for them.
This sensor device can even be installed in the medium voltage network (20 kV) of the electric power industry. Due to the introduction of the German Renewable Energy Act (EEG), there are many small and medium-sized power producers that can supply electricity to the grid, but there is no obligation (or can't) tell the energy provider exactly on a particular route or at any given How much power is available in the time or direction.
Hacker and Müller asserted that "if these detailed measurements are available, the capacity of the grid can be used more efficiently." The two experts believe that this application has huge market potential. In Bavaria alone, the 20-kV distribution network contains thousands of substations. These substations can be equipped with new, low-cost equipment without the need to temporarily disconnect from the subway station or from the grid transmission line. So far, a standard measurement system for low-voltage networks has been developed.
This standard of work was also proposed by Loewe Opta, which will eventually become the control system.
