[NetEase smart news January 17 news] technology has brought about earth-shaking changes in all aspects of our modern life. In 2018, we will see the use of high technology such as driverless cars, artificial intelligence doctors, and drone delivery in daily life.
Contrary to what many people think, you don't need to be a software engineer or a computer scientist to become a leader in the digital revolution. In this era, it is more important to be able to match technological solutions with existing business issues in innovative ways.
However, this does mean that it is crucial to understand the potential forces and mechanisms that drive these trends. The following is an overview of my five trends. I think this should be what all people in the digital field want to do this year.
1. Data is ubiquitous and grows at an alarming rate
In our lives, we have created unprecedented numbers of data. From social media to digital footprint, we use services such as Netflix, Fitbit, or Networked Systems. Every one second, 900,000 people click on Facebook, 452,000 on Twitter, and 3.5 million on Google.
This happens so fast that the current volume of data doubles every two years, and this growth (and the opportunities it offers) is what we call big data.
The absolute value of this data means that an industry and a passionate, noncommercial driven community are developing around big data. However, only a few years ago, only large companies with the resources and expertise to use this scale of data "to service" platform has reduced the need for substantial spending on infrastructure. The explosiveness of data has made many other trends possible today. Learning how to use this data will increase the prospects for anyone's development in any area.
2, smart products
In the past, only computers can connect to the Internet. Perhaps, if very advanced, some mobile phones are also available. But today, you can buy smart light bulbs, smart refrigerators, smart cars, smart watches, smart kettles, and many other "smart" products. In industry, machines are increasingly connected by the network without the need for manual operations in order to perform tasks more efficiently. In general, this trend is called "Internet of Things," because it is no longer just the computer and mobile Internet!
Intel predicts that 200 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2020. Data from these devices can help us make better decisions about our lives (such as monitoring our exercise habits through Fitbit) and work. There are many opportunities for those who can develop products and services based on this data. The potential here may be limited by our imagination.
3. Artificial intelligence will rule our lives
Of course, it is not literally understood to take over the world. But they will surely grasp our concerns. There are many machines in the field of cognitive computing that can “think†in a way that is similar to humans—especially in learning. Of course, as computers, they have certain advantages. In other words, they teach them how to learn. They will grasp this knowledge at a very fast pace, and they will be more accurate than anyone can. The end result will be that they will inevitably become more knowledgeable, competent and able to match the solution (data) to the problem.
Today's artificial intelligence systems are either dedicated (designed for a task) or generic (designed to suit any task)? - Although the true broad AI is still a distant goal. They use computer vision and other methods to enable machines to "see" things - visually identify objects and classify them accordingly, or natural language processing to communicate with us in a humanoid way.
Like big data (recording the amount of data they can access, making machines close to what we think of as "smart"), the future of artificial intelligence seems to be daunting. However, don't worry, due to the explosion of open source and "as-a-service" options, this is a viable prospect for businesses of all sizes. Skills and expertise in this area will certainly have high demand in 2018.
4, talking with the machine is becoming the second instinct
The way we interact with machines has evolved from levers and valves to control panels, keyboards and touch screen interfaces. Thanks again for the large amount of data we have, we are now in the stage of voice control machines.
It is predicted that by 2020, half of the online searches will be conducted via voice, and 30% of them will use devices that have no screen at all. This year, BMW will launch a new car with Alexa like Ford.
At work, we will become more accustomed to using AI assistants to manage daily schedules and put information in front of us when needed. In addition, through the use of chat bots and marketing tools with natural language capabilities, there is an opportunity to drive sales towards a more data-oriented customer experience model.
5. The blockchain will change the way we record and access certain types of data
Blockchain - a distributed, encrypted, and public ledger behind virtual currency Bitcoin - allows early users to make money in virtual currencies. Experts said that this represents a leap in information storage and security.
A blockchain is actually just a digital file in which pieces of information are linked together and protected with a private key password, ensuring that only users with rights can edit the portions of data they have access to.
Because copies of this file are stored in multiple computer systems (distributed) and are kept in sync via the consensus of the network, they may provide innovative solutions to the issues involved in tracking and categorizing transactions in the digital world.
In fact, blockchains may change the basis of our economic system, although this may be a bit off. At the same time, anyone who can combine blockchain technology with current business issues may find their skills.
2018 will be an exciting year. Technology innovation will leverage big data, the Internet of Things, machine learning AI, voice and natural language interfaces, and blockchain tools to transform and improve the world we live in. (From: Forbes? Compilation: NetEase Smart Participation: Rain Eggs)
