Xilinx helps Xi'an Jiaotong University to win the championship of Asia-Pacific University Robot Competition
Xilinx, the leading manufacturer of programmable logic solutions, has announced that Xi'an Jiaotong University will take advantage of Xilinx's programmable solutions to host the 7th Asia-Pacific Association of Asia-Pacific Student Robots in Pune, India The championship (ABU Robocon 2008) won the championship again. Robocon is a well-known event in which participating engineering students compete to design the best robot that can meet a particular challenge.This annual competition was launched by the Asia Pacific BroadcasTIng Union in 2002 to develop strategic thinking, leadership and team building capabilities. Xi'an Jiaotong University sponsored by Xilinx won the right to represent China in a national competition held in Beijing earlier this year. The team took the lead in reaching the finals after beating 16 other teams from the Middle East and Asia, and finally won the Robocon Robot Contest 2008. The team used Xilinx Spartan-3E FPGA to connect the sensor and driver system to the instant microprocessor, while using the high-performance DSP functions of the Spartan-3A DSP device for high-speed video inspection. The Xilinx MicroBlaze soft processor serves as the central subsystem to connect the main subsystem of the robot.
