I. Definition and relationship of culture, lighting and road lighting
Culture is the process by which human beings create the sum of material wealth and spiritual wealth. This is a definition of the broad dimension of culture, which tells us that all human labor processes and labor outcomes that act on nature and society are human cultures.
However, lighting is an activity process that creates a new living space to meet the material and psychological needs of people through the use and control of light. Therefore, lighting activities are one of the components of human cultural activities; Lighting activities in living space, therefore, it certainly cannot be a cultural activity in a broad sense. Road lighting belongs to the materialized culture. It first satisfies the needs of human survival, directly reflects the relationship between people and cities, and reflects human beings to nature. The depth of understanding, grasping, utilizing and transforming reflects the level of development of a city.
The famous lamps that the ancients left behind contain the content of both material and spiritual aspects with their exquisite thinking and techniques.
Second, the current cultural problems in China's urban road lighting products
The road lighting products mentioned here mainly refer to outdoor lighting fixtures such as street lamps and garden lamps used in municipal construction. For a long time, the road lighting products that we design, produce and use are generally lacking in artisticity and not beautiful enough. There are two extreme tendencies in performance.
First, it emphasizes the functionality of street lamps and neglects its artistic and cultural characteristics. It even artificially opposes functionality and artistry. It believes that artisticity will reduce price functions. To ensure that functional street lamps should be as simple as possible. This is the technical logic of one-sided machinery. The result is a wide range of streetlight styles with a wide range of similarities. This tendency makes our urban construction work not truly reflect its own culture and level of development.
Second, emphasizing the individual performance of street lamps and ignoring their functionality, swaying, flashy, and unconventional. This tendency is a serious misinterpretation of the cultural nature of street lamps.
The essence of the above problems is that the way of thinking is one-sided and the cultural connotation of road lighting is biased in understanding. These problems should cause us to attach great importance to and improve them today, otherwise it will delay the progress and development of our municipal construction. Keep our municipal road lighting level at a low level for a long time.
Third, correctly understand and grasp the culture in road lighting
The cultural issue of road lighting is how to make "street lights" more beautiful.
We believe that the beautiful street lights contain the following basic attributes:
(1) Satisfying functional needs: To meet the needs of transportation, it must be conducive to people correctly identifying things, which is the basic function of street lamps. If you can't meet this need, you can't talk about the culture of street lights. This means that road lights must meet a range of technical specifications and must meet illuminance (brightness), vertical and horizontal uniformity, color rendering, LPD values, environmental ratios, and anti-glare.
