Starting with the 2018 Los Angeles NBA All-Star Game, Intel became the exclusive VR content provider for the NBA on TNT and provided live coverage for major events on the NBA. Intel True VR cameras will capture game material from all angles to create an immersive viewing experience.
Intel True VR uses multiple panoramic, stereo camera pods to generate up to 1TB of data per hour for a more natural, realistic immersive NBA live broadcast. Starting with the 2018 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles, Intel became the exclusive VR content provider for NBA on TNT.

These VR content bring fans to the NBA, watching live matches, complete game replays, and highlights. The VR broadcasts supported by Intel® True VR will include TNT commentators Spero Dedes and Stephanie Ready's commentary, providing customized VR commentary to explain this interactive experience in all aspects.
Virtual reality and voxel video will provide a more immersive sports experience – from athletes' performances to fans' experience, to business and operations for large leagues and sporting events. Based on Intel's leading end-to-end technology solution, the use of VR to broadcast sports events on the NBA on TNT is just the beginning.
Technical principle:
Intel installed stereo pods around the stadium (up to 12 4K cameras per pod) and used multiple cameras to capture footage. These materials are then sent to the VR Control and Production Room. Here, Intel technology-based servers, Intel processors, and algorithms will stitch, encode, and distribute multiple content streams. Viewers can choose how they want to watch: by making good content, or switching between multiple perspectives to get a personalized, fully immersive viewing experience.
